ziprealty: Buyers Trees for Your New Home

homeproperty777: Happy Arbor Day! Whether you just bought a home that needs landscaping work or you just want to add a tree (or two) to your existing landscaping, planting a tree is a great investment in your home. Not only does it add enjoyment for you, but if you plant the right kind of tree, it can add up to $1,500 in home value.

Before we dive into some great trees you could plant, here are a few things to consider:

Does the tree cause any mess or property damage? As much as you might love handpicking plums off your own tree, make sure you consider the mess that a fruit tree can bring when fruit falls and rots. Other trees drop spiky balls or have invasive and destructive root systems.

How quickly do you need the tree to grow? If you’re planning to sell or just want to add some color to your yard quickly, look for fast-growing varieties, such as oaks or maples. Just be careful that you do your research; some fast-growers have weak or brittle wood that easily breaks during storms.

Where are you planting? Make sure there is ample room for the tree to grow for years to come. In terms of where to place the tree, you generally will want taller trees further away from your house while smaller trees will look nicely near your house.

What kind of climate do you live in? If you live in a part of the country with very cold winters, you’ll want to choose trees that a hardy in this kind of weather.
For more information about which trees will work for your specific area, talk to your local plant nursery.
